Introduction
The aim of the Children & Young People’s Services Health & Safety manual is, to support the Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) ‘Health & Safety Policy’ by providing advice and guidance to all staff.
The policy plays an essential part in underpinning Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Councils ‘core values’:

The Council has a legal ‘duty of care’ placed upon it under the ‘Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974’ and ‘Regulations’ that sit under this Act of Parliament to ensure the Health, Safety and Welfare of all employees, and other people affected by their acts or omissions, so far as is ‘reasonably practicable’.
Children & Young People’s Services are expected to:
- Adhere to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Councils Health and Safety policy.
- Provide advice and guidance on health and safety to all staff across the Programme Area.
- Provide advice and guidance on health and safety to all Schools.
- Monitor health and safety procedures to ensure legal compliance.
- Provide health and safety training.
