Our group’s aim is to make a difference to the gender issues we face in our Rotherham schools, to gain a clear understanding of what those issue are and to open up the debate.
- One major source of information will be individual school data giving an opportunity to focus on the range of gender issues. This in depth study of the data will help us to compose the questions that need to ask of ourselves and schools to open the debate to raise everyone’s awareness of the extent, nature and variety of issues related to gender.
- This debate will engage all partners in the learning conversation. To facilitate this we are planning an LEA wide conference in January 2006. We will further inform the conversation with researched and identified sources of good practice in Rotherham, regionally and nationally examining what the focus of the practice was, what effect it has had on gender issues and what aspects of the practice are transferable.
- A review of the current literature on gender issues will take place to examine the thinking behind the practice to give us a firm background to build our actions and working parties in schools and colleges.
- Gender issues are a multi agency concern and are firmly embedded in the Every Child Matters agenda; our group reflects this cross agency aspect with members from education psychology, the inclusion service and education.
