CPD Opportunities in Rotherham
Rotherham offers a diverse range of training opportunities for classroom teachers, and for those aspiring to or already active in middle leadership such as curriculum leaders and pastoral leaders.
To view a complete list of training courses organized for this academic year follow the link to the Rotherham ‘Training and Development Opportunities’ folder. (See Navigation)
All teachers should be actively engaged in annual Performance Reviews and in the planning of their continuous professional development. We encourage all teachers to develop a Professional Portfolio to plan and record their CPD. Guidance and a structure for this is given in
'Building a Professional Development Portfolio' ![]()

The Portfolio can be downloaded electronically here. Alternatively ringbound copies of this are available from the CPD team.
Teacher Learning Academy
Starting in 2004-5 Sheffield and Rotherham LA’s are currently part of a national pilot of the General Teaching Council’s ‘Teacher Learning Academy’ [TLA]. The TLA offers an opportunity for teachers to gain recognition or academic accreditation for research and change activities undertaken in school. There are now over 70 teachers in Rotherham engaged in a TLA project. Over 50 teachers have opted to have their project accredited through Sheffield Hallam Un iversity for 30 Masters level credits.
Work recognised by the Academy reflects six core dimensions:
- accessing a knowledge base
- planning
- carrying out a teacher learning project
- evaluating the project
- accessing peer support and coaching, and
- disseminating what has been learnt
Full details of the TLA pilot and application procedures can be found in the TLA section of the GTC website. (See Useful Links Page)
