This area is one of the biggest growth areas in internet use over the last few years. This has been possible through the introduction of Web 2.0. Initially, it started with the development of Blogs (Web Logs) and developed through the use of Wikis (collaborative contributional web pages) and onto Podcasts. The appearance of sites such as My Space, Bebo, Flickr, YouTube and Pizco all people to share a wide range of materials including images, video and music. The use of these technologies encourages students to become contributors and authors rather than just passive consumers. However, children need to be made aware of the material that they are submitting as this may be of a personal nature. Through the development of the extended networks, students may expose them selves to inappropriate contact and could lead to bullying, slander or abuse.
