All Primary and Special schools in Rotherham received information in May 2007 about our 'Picture This!' project which is based on the National Gallery's 'Take One Picture' project.

All schools were invited to send two members of staff from their school to the Launch Event for the project which was scheduled to take place on Tuesday 26th June 2007. Unfortunately, the weather intervened and due to the flooding, the event had to be postponed.

Knowing how busy schools are at the end of the summer term, it was decided to delay the Launch Event until the start of the new academic year in September. The rearranged event took place on 21st September 2007 at Carlton Park Hotel. Fifty four people from twenty eight of our Primary and Special schools attended.

After registration and a buffet lunch, Karen Hosack, who is the Head of Schools in the National Gallery Education Department, began the afternoon session. She spoke passionately about their 'Take One Picture' project and the benefits that schools have reported to the Gallery following involvement in the cross-curricular scheme.

Maggie Duroe and Sandra Sanders from Wentworth C of E J&I school then spoke about their school's involvement in the project this year. For those of you who do not know already, Wentworth did fantastically well and were one of the participating schools that were chosen to have some of their children's work displayed at the National Gallery. Maggie and Sandra have subsequently been asked to talk about their school's experience of the 'Take One Picture' project to delegates at conferences at the Gallery. They were also able to take the whole school to London for a special viewing of the 'Take One Picture' exhibition which included, of course, some of their own children's work.
